A wander in Hai Phong

What do you call a wandering caveman?

A Meanderthal.

30th January 2020

This is just a mini post to show what Hai Phong is like to live in.

After a full day of teaching for both of us we decided to take a little stroll, mostly to find food which we’ve discovered can be a nightmare if you don’t know where to go, but also because so farf we felt like we know nothing about the place were planning to be staying in for the forseeable future.

Now Banh Mi is the best food ever!!!!

You can get laods of different types but our favoutire is a Bánh Mì Trứng!

It’s basically a fried egg sandwich on some french stick with salad, hot sauce and soy sauce. And it is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

We ended up in a hotpot place which was beautiful, our efforts to order were slightly useless so we ended up jsut pointing to what the people next to us were having and I feel like you just can’t go wrong with that tactic.

Since then we have experienced lots of different food places but we definitely have our favourites…

There is a Bia Hoi that we have visited a few time which was an experience the first time as the woman who runs it has zero english and we can just about work out bits of the menu so her tactic was to jsut not make eye contact with us and avoid us if we wanted anything.

Since we’ve been back she kind of just brings stuff over and we say if we want it or not, it’s not the worst system.

We met a nice couple who make rice and Pho which are insanely cheap, like 30,000 vnd, so approx £1.

Since then we have visited them several times, they have a tiny child who stares at us until we wave then hides from us, I think that means were friends.

So far, we like Hai Phong, people are friendly and the food is GOOOOOD!
