All my marble friends are mad at me…
They say I took them for granite
27th January 2020

For one of our days left in Da Nang we decided to visit the glorious Marble Mountains. After an easy twenty minute taxi, costing around £2 (I do love the cost of things here) we arrived at the front of the Mountains. The first thing to catch my eye was the huge lift in front of us, you know besides the mountains that overlooked everything. Now I am not saying I’m unfit, it may be true but I won’t admit it yet, but the thought of climbing god knows how many uneven stairs did not appeal to me when for the ludicrous price of 50p there was the offer of taking the lift.

Once we entered the mountain we had realised that there was going to be a lot of climbing and manoeuvring involved, luckily I had taken a rock climbing class or two in my time and didn’t fall…too badly. The one key thing about climbing and attempting to terrain across the Marble Mountains is the whole Marble aspect. It is very slippery. Especially when you bring someone who decides to wear flip flops, not the best decision Beth. However, we survived and made it to the top.

After climbing our way to the top we discovered that there was also a lot more to see here. The main beauty from the Marble Mountains was not the view from the very top but from the structures and statues built inside of them. Once the crowds had dispersed there was a beautiful silence that you could feel. It was the perfect moment to just sit and reflect on where we were and how far we had come from sitting at home and planning the first steps of our move to Vietnam. It truly was worth seeing and luckily we changed our mind on skipping the whole thing after driving past the first time and being fed false information. It has been one of the more moving locations we have visited and can’t wait to see more like it.
