I’m bacon.

Well here we are, training and day one of teaching done. Do you know what that means? Exactly, time for a holiday! In Asia they have Tet, a celebration of the Lunar New Year and luckily this year it decided to fall just as we started teaching. Now normally we would have just stayed around our local area and got accustomed to our new home, but with new friends and a drink definitely needed we all decided to get on a plane and head somewhere new. Da Nang. An hour away by plane, with only a slight delay at the airport, and we arrived. Unlike the likes of Liverpool, arriving somewhere after 10pm doesn’t mean you can still find somewhere to eat with ease. however it does mean that crisps and oreos are on tonights menu. Now being unable to find a place to eat was a downside but luckily we got to see the beautiful dragon bridge at night.

And as beautiful as it was in the night, the dragon bridge was just as cool in the day. This is what led us to day two in Da Nang. We had a lie in, (Thank God, it was very needed!) breakfast in the morning and then decided to take a stroll over the bridge to see what lay on the other side. It was only as we got up close that we noticed the detail that went into the dragon and just how giant it was.

Once we started over the bridge we had no idea where we were going so just continued straight down the road. Now although we are becoming teachers nobody ever said we were clever. 28 Degrees in the middle of the day and we thought it would be clever to walk around in the open sun with no protection, don’t worry we found some suncream later on and kept safe. A little further down the road we came across the beautiful beach of Da Nang, Bãi biển Mỹ Khê, now as every tourist beach spot there was lots of sand, sun and of course beer. It was a lovely spot that we definitely did not prepare for but we would definitely return to.

The next day we all venutred out to Sun World to see the magnificent hand bridge, but that is a blog post on its own. After that marvellous day it was time for Tet itself in the evening. After figuring out that the dragon display wasn’t just for Tet and in fact was every weekend (very cool we know) we found a few local bars and waited it out until midnight to see the fireworks. After a great display we all decided that it was time for bed and to carry on the next day with the Marble Mountains.
