About Us… (and why the hell we thought we could do this)

Hello All,

This is us, looking very British on a beach holiday before we knew what we’d let ourselves in for!

We are two relatively normal (ish) people from the Wirral, but if you’re travelling it’s just easier to just say Liverpool to be honest, we have recently moved to Vietnam to become English teachers and this little blog will explain our day to day activities and down right meltdowns along the way!

The idea of our trip or should we call it our ‘mid twenties crisis’ was to avoid adulting! We have both recently finished uni and are desperately trying to postpone that time where we have a mortgage, a ‘proper’ job and have to pretend we don’t want to spend our entire day in pajamas watching Netflix and napping.

Dan has an English degree and wants to teach in the UK so naturally teaching English abroad is an ideal substitute to being an adult at home. However, I have a Masters in Architecture (which sounds smart but honestly is lot of drawing pictures) and my gcse english teacher used to laugh at me – alot. So please be patient with the ramblings of these pages, you’ll be able to tell when Dan is contributing I promise 😂

Anyways our decision making process summed up pretty much went as follows…

Me: I want to go and travel around Asia
Dan: we have no money!
Me: ahh but plleeeeeaaaassseeee
Dan: …
Me: I think Vietnam sounds nice, I’ve found a course, we need to save x amount of cash, I’m booking our flights now, we leave in January!
Dan: um…

I promise by the time we left he was very much on board but I did spend several months checking he did really want to go and wasn’t just too laid back to argue.

Also, I hoping it isn’t worrying that pretty much our only preperation for moving to the opposites side of the planet was to watch the top gear Vietnam special.

But to be fair it is a spectacular episode!

Our plans for this trip involve teaching english to people who preferably know less English than we do and eating whatever food we point to on a menu because no matter how hard we’ve tried learning vietnamese so far, we suck at it! So all in all it is set up to be good, hopefully!

B
